If you’ve filled out a support form or tried to contact us and you have not received an email back from us, check your spam/bulk folder.  The number one reason some people don’t get our emails is because we have a business email account and sometimes our mail gets dumped into the old spam folder.  Be sure that you add support@formulaoneactions.com to your contacts list.  This will allow our emails to reach you.  We try to responde as soon as possible but please allow up to 24 hours for a response.

What does each action do?

Because each photographer’s post processing techniques differ, it’s hard to define in words what each action does.  To help others get an idea, we encourage our clients to submit their work to be featured on our website.  Here you can view before and after samples of the picture including a list of actions or action they used. Check out www.FormulaOneActions.com and click on “Client Samples” to see a variety of different photos and the actions used to process these pictures.  This will help you better understand what each action does and how to apply it.

How does Formula One Actions process my picture?

Formula One Actions for Photoshop is designed to cut down on your work flow while allowing creative flexibility.  Our actions give you total control over the effect and allow you to adjust the power with one slider or adjusting the blending mode.  We found that many action sets out on the market required too many post steps after you ran the actions or the final effect distorted the original quality of the picture.  This can really add up and take time so we developed Formula One Actions for Photoshop as a new concept and a different way to approach the use of actions.  There are multiple ways to run and mix different actions while you control the power and effect that each action has.  Our actions run a series of steps to create a certain look and then package that look into one layer plus your original picture.  This layer of effects can then be altered by adjusting the opacity of the layer and/or changing the blending mode of the layer.  We’ve worked really hard to develop these actions so that they can easily be tweaked using the opacity rather than tweaking multiple layers.  Once you’ve had a chance to play around with this method, I think you will like it.

What do I need to know about actions before I can use Formula One Actions for Photoshop?

Formula One actions for Photoshop are simple to use but they do require you to have a basic knowledge of Photoshop and using layers.  We’ve also included a handy dandy tutorial with the purchase of the actions to help you out.

How do I unzip the folder that was downloaded to my computer?

Once you’ve purchased Formula One Actions, for Photoshop you will receive two confirmation emails.  One email will have your billing information regarding the purchase and the other will feature a download link that you can click to download the actions.  Click on this link and it will automatically start downloading Formula One Actions for Photoshop to your desktop or the area you have designated for all files to be downloaded to such as the “downloads folder.”  Once you’ve located this folder, you need to unzip the folder to gain access to the actions.  Depending on your operating platform, follow the directions below:

If you’re using a MAC:

  1. Locate the zipped file on your computer and double click the zipped folder.  This will automatically start the un-zipping process.
  2. Once the file is unzipped, you will notice a new folder that pops up named Formula One Actions
  3. Open this folder, locate the install guide PDF and then follow the directions.

If you’re using a PC:

Method 1

  1. Why are you using a PC? :)   Get a MAC!!
  2. Locate the zipped file on your computer and double click the zipped folder.  A new window will pop up.
  3. Drag the Formula One Actions folder from this new window on to your desktop.
  4. Open this folder, locate the install guide PDF and then follow the directions.

Method 2

  1. Locate the zipped file on your computer and right click the zipped folder.
  2. Choose the “Extract All” option from the menu
  3. A new window pops up, choose the location where you want the unzipped files to be stored (we suggest your desktop)
  4. Click “Begin” or “Extract Files” and it will start unzipping the files to a new folder.
  5. Open this folder, locate the install guide PDF and then follow the directions.

If you receive an error message while trying to unzip the files on a PC, you may want to check your computer settings or use a third party program such as Winzip.

I ran an action and a window popped up saying “The Object Background Is Not Currently Available.”

If this error window pops up, it will ask you to “Stop” or “Continue.”  Choose the “Stop” option and then flatten the image.  Once you’ve flattened the image, you may re-select the action that you wanted to run.  Because the action was stopped because of the error, you must select the action name again in order to run the action again.  Once you’ve selected the action and flattened the image, you can run the action again.  If for some reason you clicked continue instead of stop, you can go back into your history panel to before you ran the action or close the image without saving it and reopen the image.

I ran an action and now it looks strange or it gives me an error message.

A couple of things could be happening here.  Check to make sure you have the correct version of Formula One Actions and Photoshop.  If you are using Version 2.0 and are operating Photoshop CS5, you need to update to Formula One Actions version 2.1.  Second, the steps within each action have to be there.  Try not to edit or delete the steps.  This can cause an error.  If you’ve accidentally deleted or removed one of the steps, reinstall Formula One Actions for Photoshop.  Third, more than likely you forgot to flatten the image before you selected to run the next action.  Go back and start over with your previous action and then flatten the image before you run the next.

I ran an action but the effect is too strong.

Formula One creates a duplicate of your original image and only affects the copy.  Simply select the edited copy layer (usually named by the action you ran) and adjust the opacity of that layer to your taste or for more power, simply select the edited layer and  then adjust the blending mode of that layer.  Sometimes changing the blending mode to “Soft Light” or “Multiply” can add a really cool effect.

Can I run an action on multiple pictures at one time?

Some applications like Adobe Bridge, allow you to select multiple pictures within Bridge and then run a certain Formula One Action within Photoshop.  In Bridge, select the images that you want to run a certain action on. Once these images are selected, go to Tools, Photoshop, Image Processor and then choose the desired action you want to run in the window that pops up.  This window will prompt you to select the group of actions and then choose the individual action that you want to run.  This will automatically create a new folder and save a duplicate of your image processed with the action.

I accidentally deleted or messed up an action within the action palette.

If you’ve accidentally deleted or changed an action step, you can reload the default version of Formula One Actions for Photoshop by locating the original action pack.  Simply follow the original steps you took to install Formula One Actions for Photoshop by clicking “Load Actions” and locating the action pack on your computer.  This will load the default version of Formula One Actions for Photoshop into your action palette.  You can now delete the old version that contains the errors.

Help!  I’ve read all of the directions and I still have a problem or unique question.
